a. Case #1 (A L DDC 2014): Defendant was originally convicted of conspiracy to participate in a racketeer influenced corrupt organization (RICO)in violation of 18 U.S.C. 1962(d) (potential penalty: shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years (or for life if the violation is based on a racketeering activity for which the maximum penalty includes life imprisonment), or both) and murder in aid of racketeering activity in violation of 18 U.S.C. 1959(a)(1) (potential penalty: death or life imprisonment, or a fine under this title, or both). Defendant was sentenced to 276 months incarceration. As a result of the work of the attorneys Joanne Hepworth and Michael Davis, however, the defendant’s sentence was reduced to 144 months with credit for time-served.
